During the 1970's and 1980's Rudy built a line of exceptional sounding Resonator Guitars, sometimes using unconventional methods. Rudy worked with and built guitars for many luminaries in the music world.
A NEW LINE OF R.Q. JONES RESONATOR GUITARS
After Rudy moved to Florida, he continued building resonator guitars just one at a time. As the construction of his guitars became increasingly time consuming and costly, he developed a way to retrofit imported guitars bypassing the guitar body construction all together while still maintaining that special sound and quality he developed.
I spent many quality hours with Rudy in his shop on Old Post Road in Bristol, Florida
Despite the long hours I spent with him, I could never approach his caliber of luthier. Very few people in this world could.
Personally taught by the Master
I do however, have first hand knowledge (being personally taught by Rudy) of how to retrofit these guitars, making each one sound as he intended.
In 2012, I was fortunate enough to partner with R.Q. to make a video summarizing what he taught me: How to apply his retrofit technique using quality imported mahogany bodies. According to Rudy, if you use a solidly built mahogany body the "coveted" RQ Jones sound can be achieved.
The result is a top of the line sound at a very affordable price
Sadly, R.Q. passed away from complications of Parkinson's in 2015
He was passionate about retrofitting guitars using his logo in hope that a substantial amount of the proceeds would go toward Parkinson's research.
As he and I discussed how to do this, along with the video, he transferred ownership of the R.Q. Jones name and logo to me.
As the New Line of R.Q. Jones guitars are being completed, I am extremely pleased at the response from resonator guitar players such as:
"Thank You Ladies and Gentlemen For Your Donations To Parkinson's Research"
